ELDO Action. Here is the sixth of eight original photos that I took in the Eldorado section of Altoona, Pennsylvania, in January of 1966. At the left, the crew of Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9819 awaits orders to move their mixed-cargo freight train from Altoona through Eldorado to the Wye Switches in Duncansville, and thence up the New Portage Branch line to Gallitzin and points West. #9819 is an EF-15A built by GM-EMD in May of 1951, rated at 1,500 horsepower, and retired in November of 1966. At the right, a local freight bound for Hollidaysburg bypasses the line-haul train. It's powered by PRR engine #9392, an ES-12 switcher built by GM-EMD in May of 1950 and rated at 1,200 horsepower. |
