PRR 2533, GF-25, 1965
Title:  PRR 2533, GF-25, 1965
Description:  Slope to Works. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 6 June 1965. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #2533, #2532, and #2531. All are GF-25's built by General Electric in September of 1964 and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. In this context, they're passing WORKS Tower with an ore train on its way up the West Slope of the Allegheny Mountains to the steel mills in Pittsburgh. Wave to the Engineman! (#31 of 44)

All are GF-25's built by General Electric in September of 1964 and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. In this context, they've just passed under the 4th Street Footbridge and will shortly pass under the 7th Street Bridge with an ore train on its way up the West Slope of the Allegheny Mountains to the steel mills in Pittsburgh. The black water tower is all that remains from the "Age of Steam" when there was a small coal/sand/watering facility at this location. (#32 of 44)

Description:  7th Street. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during August of 1965. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #2533, #2532, and two other units whose numbers are not recorded. #2533 and #2532 are both GF-25's built by General Electric in 1964 and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. They are about to pass under the 7th Street Bridge with a merchandise freight train on their way to Enola and points East. Visible in the center distance are some of the PRR's 12th Street Shop buildings.
